  Societal Consequences of Mercury Pollution

Global Mercury Trade and Possible Control Parameters for Mercury Use and Emissions
Session CodeS-SC-5
Session TypeCombined Oral and Poster
DescriptionMercury is freely traded in most countries and the globally dominating end users are small-scale gold miners, where poor control of emissions causes damages to health and environment. The present replacement of Hg cells in western chlor-alkali plants is spurring the trade of Hg, which needs to be more transparent.
